President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second and final tenure will end on July 31, 2026.
Professor Aina, who turns 40 in July, is a respected academic and systems expert known for his contributions to national examination processes, digital infrastructure, and reforms within public institutions.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina began his journey with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained firsthand experience in admissions administration and data-driven institutional systems. That early exposure would later influence his work in examination reforms and operational efficiency.
With more than 15 years of professional experience after graduation, Professor Aina has built a reputation at the intersection of technology, governance, and institutional transformation. At the age of 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.
Over the years, he has worked with major examination bodies such as National Examinations Council (NECO), National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and several State Ministries of Education, offering expertise in ICT systems, examination security, and digital process improvement.
Professor Aina is also affiliated with several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
According to the Presidency, President Tinubu expects the new Registrar to deploy his wealth of experience, technical expertise, and practical understanding of the Board’s operations to further strengthen and advance the achievements recorded under his predecessor.
