The change will not affect individuals using regular WhatsApp or businesses using the standard WhatsApp Business app to manually communicate with customers.

The new pricing will mainly affect businesses that use WhatsApp at scale, including fintechs, e-commerce platforms, airlines, retailers and other companies that rely on the platform for automated customer communication.

Under the updated model, Meta will charge businesses based on delivered messages , with the cost varying according to the type of message and the recipient’s country.

For businesses sending large volumes of messages, these costs could quickly add up. Companies may therefore need to reassess their WhatsApp communication strategies, particularly how frequently they contact customers and which conversations are best handled through the API.

For businesses that depend heavily on WhatsApp for customer engagement, the change could make message planning, automation and cost management more important than ever.
