Professor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), praised the initiative in a formal letter, calling it a “window of opportunity” for Nigerian youths. FUTA alone has seen over ₦186 million disbursed to more than 1,700 students.
At the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, ₦195 million reached 2,438 students. Registrar Abubakar Aliyu noted that beyond easing financial hardship, the intervention has inspired students to aim higher academically.
In Uyo, 400-level Political Science student Emmanuel Jonah recalls applying for the loan during a moment of crisis:
“I had no money at all to pay my school fees… it came through at the right time.”
While some delays occurred, Emmanuel sees it as one of the first truly impactful federal programs in his life. For fellow University of Uyo student Samuel Udoh, the support isn’t just about survival—it’s about planning for the future. The aspiring diplomat is already saving part of his loan to prepare for life after graduation.
Across the country, one message rings clear: NELFUND is working. Payments are timely, applications are smooth, and the relief it brings is real. More than a loan scheme, it’s laying the foundation for a generation of better-educated, better-prepared Nigerians.
