The Customs Area Controller of the Kebbi Area Command, Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, on Thursday, January 29, 2026, hosted the newly deployed Comptroller of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Kebbi State Command, Comptroller Mohammed Lawal Hayatuddeen, during a courtesy visit to the Command headquarters. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation and improving working relationships between the two agencies.

Speaking during the visit, the Immigration Comptroller expressed sincere appreciation for the warm reception he received from the Customs Area Controller, describing it as thoughtful and professional. He noted that Comptroller Ibrahim personally welcomed him upon arrival at the airport and helped facilitate his introduction to other security agencies in the state, which made his resumption easier.
Comptroller Hayatuddeen praised Ibrahim’s leadership style, describing him as humble, approachable, and supportive — qualities he said have helped deepen trust and collaboration among security agencies in Kebbi State. He encouraged younger officers to learn from his example, highlighting his professionalism and experience in service.
He also urged senior officers in both agencies to prioritize the welfare and mentorship of junior personnel, stressing that guidance and encouragement are more effective than criticism or intimidation. According to him, officers who are mentally and emotionally supported are better positioned to perform their duties efficiently.
The Immigration Comptroller reaffirmed his commitment to building a strong working partnership with the Nigeria Customs Service through closer collaboration, intelligence sharing, and joint operational support, all aimed at improving border security and national safety.
In his response, Comptroller Ibrahim said the visit reflects the broader policy direction of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, which emphasizes collaboration, consolidation, and innovation across agencies.
He recalled past security challenges in the Maje axis of Bagudo Local Government Area, where both Services suffered losses of personnel and equipment. He noted that improved cooperation and better operational coordination have since helped stabilize activities in the area. He stressed that continued intelligence sharing and joint efforts among security agencies remain essential to protecting officers, securing border communities, and defending national interests.
