Promasidor Nigeria, a major player in the fast-moving consumer goods sector, has reinforced its commitment to developing Nigeria’s dairy industry through active participation in the national dairy development programme. The initiative is already producing tangible results by increasing local milk production and expanding access to affordable, high-quality dairy products across the country.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, François Gillet, said Promasidor’s investment in the Ikun Dairy Farm has helped raise domestic dairy output while building a sustainable and inclusive model that supports broader economic growth.
Gillet explained that the Ikun Dairy Farm was established in 2019 through a partnership with the Ekiti State Government, starting with an initial investment of about $5 million, followed by additional funding to scale up operations over time.
He noted that supporting the national dairy development programme aligns with Promasidor’s long-term strategy to source more raw materials locally, strengthen the dairy value chain, and ensure steady delivery of nutritious milk products to Nigerian consumers.
Today, the Ikun Dairy Farm is home to more than 750 high-yield cattle, making it the largest dairy farm in Nigeria. Continued investment in the facility reflects the company’s sustained focus on expanding local production capacity.
The farm uses modern dairy management methods, including routine artificial insemination, to improve herd quality and increase the number of heifers, supporting steady and sustainable growth.
Beyond milk production, the project has also become an economic driver for its host community. Over 200 local residents are directly employed at the farm, while more than 1,000 indirect jobs have been created in surrounding communities, contributing to income generation and local economic development. The operation is supported by experienced veterinary doctors and trained dairy specialists.
To ensure long-term sustainability, Promasidor has also implemented a strong feed security plan, cultivating more than 500 hectares of maize and soybeans to provide consistent, high-quality nutrition for the cattle.
Promasidor has long been a major force in Nigeria’s dairy market. In March 1993, the company reshaped the food and beverage landscape with the launch of Cowbell Milk in sachets — an innovation that was later widely adopted by competitors.
As part of its social responsibility efforts, the company also runs the “Ikun Milk Day” initiative, through which fresh milk from the Ikun Dairy Farm is distributed weekly to primary school pupils in Ikun community public schools to support their health and learning.
