The UK government has authorised an astounding 430,000 visas for Nigerians wishing to study or immigrate to the country in 2024 alone, according to British High Commissioner to Nigeria Dr. Richard Montgomery, despite the continuing upheaval in the UK.

Montgomery attempted to allay worries about safety at a meeting with Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, in Abuja on Wednesday. He did this by underlining the UK’s diverse population and steps taken to resolve the turmoil.
“In 2024, about 430,000 applications for Nigerian visas were successfully processed,” he stated. He mentioned that 400 people had been taken into custody in relation to the violence, and that 60 special courts had been set up to address associated criminal activity.
We will, however, be closely observing the UK government’s capacity to strike a balance between the security imperative and the rights of Nigerian nationals residing in the nation.
