After leading the United States for the first three quarters, the Nigerian women wrapped up their tour with a fourth-quarter victory.
Despite being outscored 26–12 in the last quarter, the United States defeated Nigeria 88–74 to proceed to the competition’s quarterfinal. The Rena Wakama girls, who became the first African team (male and female) to reach the Olympic quarterfinals, will be walking away from the competition with their heads held high.
In their first group game, D’Tigress shocked Australia, kicking off their campaign on a high note. They lost to the hosts, France, in their second group match, but they recovered to beat Canada in their last group match and move on to the quarterfinals.
