The Nigeria Police Force, through the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), has arrested a suspect identified as John Cosmos Govi for allegedly masterminding a high-profile robbery involving luxury items and valuables stolen from a residence in Abuja.
Investigations revealed that Govi, who reportedly attended a catering school in Cotonou, Benin Republic, gained employment as a chef in the residence after making contact with two accomplices, Peter and Moses, who are currently on the run. Police said the suspect carefully monitored the household’s routine, movements, and security arrangements before carrying out the operation on April 23, 2026.
According to findings, meals prepared in the house were allegedly laced with a suspected sedative substance aimed at weakening the occupants and security personnel. Once the victims became incapacitated, the suspect reportedly allowed his accomplices into the residence. The gang then damaged the CCTV system, searched the apartment, and escaped with cash and about 20 luxury wristwatches estimated to be worth ₦150 million.
Operatives of the FID-IRT later intercepted the suspects while they were attempting to flee through the Gwagwalada area on their way to Lagos. During the operation, police recovered an iPhone 17 Pro Max belonging to the victim, along with a suspected chemical substance which has been sent for forensic examination.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to tackling criminal activities and ensuring that everyone linked to organised crime faces justice.
