The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed more than 56,000 personnel and tactical operatives across the country to strengthen security during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, while warning criminals against any attempt to disrupt public peace or sabotage critical infrastructure.
The nationwide operation, approved by the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Audi, includes the deployment of operational vehicles, ambulances, boats, and K9 units to ensure swift emergency response and protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure nationwide.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commandant of Corps Babawale Afolabi, the NSCDC disclosed that all specialised tactical units have been placed on high alert to prevent security breaches during the festive period.
The tactical teams mobilised for the operation include the Mining Marshals, Special Intelligence Squad, Crack Squad, Female Special Force, and the Rapid Response Squad.
According to the statement, the Commandant General directed Zonal Commanders to personally oversee operations within their areas and work closely with State Commandants to ensure full compliance with the security directive.
State Commandants were also instructed to supervise Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, and Outpost Heads to guarantee effective implementation of security measures across the federation.
The NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to working with other security agencies and the public to maintain peace and safety throughout the Sallah celebrations.
The Corps also appealed to Nigerians to provide timely and credible information on suspicious movements and security threats to enable prompt action by security personnel.
It further warned that anyone involved in vandalising public infrastructure or causing unrest would face arrest and prosecution in line with the law.
“The NSCDC will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone found disrupting public peace,” the statement added.
