The presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held across Ogun State on Saturday witnessed impressive turnout, peaceful conduct, and strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as party members and leaders reaffirmed their loyalty to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Across different wards in the state, APC faithful came out in large numbers to participate in the affirmation exercise, which was carried out smoothly without any form of disruption.
At Ward 3, Iperu 1, in Ikenne Local Government Area, party members began arriving as early as 9 a.m. for the exercise. A total of 830 accredited voters took part and unanimously endorsed President Tinubu, who stood as the sole presidential aspirant in the ward.
Speaking after the exercise, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, described the successful conduct of the APC primaries as evidence of the peace, unity, and political maturity existing within the party in the state.
He noted that Ogun State has maintained a peaceful political atmosphere over the past seven years, allowing citizens and party members to freely engage in democratic activities without fear, violence, or intimidation.
According to the governor, the peaceful atmosphere in the state has become a defining feature of Ogun’s political culture, where party affairs are managed through dialogue, planning, and mutual understanding.
Governor Abiodun explained that the presidential primary concluded a week-long series of APC primaries in the state, covering the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and governorship positions.
He commended President Tinubu for what he described as purposeful leadership at the national level and also praised the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, for ensuring a smooth and well-organised process nationwide.
The governor equally appreciated party leaders, members of the State Working Committee, and elder statesman, Chief Olusegun Osoba, for their support and contributions throughout the exercise.
Abiodun added that consultations and engagements across Ogun’s three senatorial districts helped strengthen unity within the party, encouraged wider participation, and gave members a stronger sense of belonging.
Expressing confidence ahead of the 2027 elections, the governor said the APC would record victory at the polls, stressing that President Tinubu’s policies and reforms are laying the foundation for a better Nigeria.
Also speaking, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, described the APC primaries in the state as a strong indication of the party’s popularity, internal democracy, and growing public confidence.
At Ward 10, Opeji, in Odeda Local Government Area, where over 2,000 APC members participated in the presidential affirmation exercise, Senator Salisu said the turnout across the state was unprecedented and similar to what is usually seen during a general election.
According to him, the large number of party members seen across various wards reflects the growing strength and acceptance of the APC in Ogun State.
The senator, who recently won the Ogun Central Senatorial primary, revealed that he secured 85,804 votes during the exercise, describing it as a clear endorsement of his performance and representation over the last three years.
He also highlighted the peaceful conduct of the primaries across all 236 wards as one of the biggest achievements of the exercise, noting that despite intense political activities and consultations, no case of violence was recorded.
Senator Salisu attributed the excitement among party members to the achievements of President Tinubu’s administration as well as Governor Abiodun’s developmental efforts, especially in infrastructure and grassroots development.
Reaffirming his ambition, he confidently declared that by God’s grace, he remains both the current and incoming senator for Ogun Central Senatorial District.
Meanwhile, in Owode Ward 3 of Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, APC supporters also came out massively for the presidential affirmation exercise as Chief Olusegun Osoba and his son, Rt. Hon. Olumide Osoba, were warmly welcomed by enthusiastic party members.
Their appearance further boosted the morale of supporters and reinforced what many described as the unity and strength of the APC structure across Ogun State.
Party members at the venue praised Chief Osoba for his leadership role within the party and commended Rt. Hon. Olumide Osoba for sustaining grassroots mobilisation and engagement within the constituency.
Across the state, the APC presidential primary and affirmation exercise ended peacefully, with party members unanimously ratifying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the APC presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
