The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly primaries were conducted peacefully across the 26 state constituencies in Ogun State on Wednesday, with large numbers of party members arriving at designated voting centres as early as 9 a.m. to take part in the exercise.
Reports from different parts of the state showed that the primaries were orderly, transparent and free from violence, as party faithful actively participated in the direct voting process.
Speaking with journalists after casting his vote at Ward 3, Iperu, in Ikenne Local Government Area, Governor Dapo Abiodun reiterated his administration’s dedication to maintaining peace and political stability in the state.
The governor described the exercise as peaceful and transparent, saying it reflected the spirit of internal democracy within the party. He also stressed the importance of preserving unity and harmony at a time when political activities are gathering momentum across the country.
Governor Abiodun commended party members, delegates and electoral officials for their orderly conduct, noting that the calm atmosphere during the primaries highlighted the maturity, unity and discipline of the APC in Ogun State.

Reports from different parts of the state showed that the exercise was orderly, transparent, and free of violence, as members actively participated in the direct primaries.
Speaking with journalists after casting his vote at Ward 3 in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area, Governor Dapo Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and political stability in the state.
The governor described the exercise as peaceful and credible, saying it reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy at a time political activities are gathering momentum across the country.
Abiodun expressed satisfaction with the conduct of party members, delegates, and electoral officials, noting that the peaceful atmosphere demonstrated the maturity, unity, and discipline of the APC in Ogun State.
He congratulated Mr. Seyi Olumuyiwa, who emerged victorious in the ward, urging him to remain humble in victory and provide quality representation for the people and the party if eventually elected.
The governor also commended other aspirants for embracing the party’s consensus arrangement and showing sportsmanship throughout the process.
According to him, the APC remains a united family focused on strengthening democracy and ensuring effective representation for the people.
Abiodun further praised party members, security agencies, and the media for contributing to the success of the primaries across the state since Saturday. He added that his administration had changed the political atmosphere in Ogun by putting an end to thuggery and violence in politics.
Announcing the result, the APC Returning Officer for Ikenne Local Government, Dr. Femi Akinbile, revealed that 830 party members were accredited for the election, while Seyi Olumuyiwa secured 825 votes to emerge winner.
Akinbile applauded party faithful for their orderly conduct, which he said ensured a smooth exercise.
Speaking after his victory, Olumuyiwa thanked Governor Abiodun and party members for the confidence reposed in him, promising purposeful and inclusive representation.
In Odeda Local Government Area, the APC direct primary election for the Odeda State Constituency was also held peacefully across all 10 wards, with impressive voter turnout recorded in several polling units.
The consensus candidate and Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Daisi Elemide, voted in Ward 1, where he reportedly secured 2,115 votes from party members.
At Opeji Ward 10, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, who chairs the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, also participated in the exercise alongside party supporters. Reports described the process as peaceful and well attended.
In Olodo Ward 3, ward councillor Hon. Sina Ebenezer Semilore confirmed that 899 votes were recorded in favour of Elemide.
Voting was also peaceful and transparent in Orile-Ilugun Ward 5 and other wards across the local government area.
Reacting to the exercise, party chieftain Hon. Fijabi Daniel described the primary as one of the most peaceful he had witnessed.
He said the process was transparent and gave every card-carrying member the opportunity to participate, adding that party members remained solidly behind Speaker Daisi Elemide.
Mrs. Tope Adebesin from Olodo Ward 3 also praised the calm atmosphere during the exercise, saying members voted freely without tension or conflict.
Similarly, youth mobiliser Comrade Lekan Soyoye described the peaceful conduct of the primaries as a positive sign ahead of the 2027 general election, expressing confidence in the leadership of the Speaker and the unity within the party.
With the successful completion of the primaries across Odeda’s 10 wards and other parts of the state, APC members are now turning their attention to the 2027 general election with renewed confidence in the party’s consensus candidates.
