Political analyst and writer, Dr. James Bwala, has dismissed reports suggesting a rift between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the claims as false and misleading.
Reacting to a report published by the Nigerian Tribune on May 17, 2026, which alleged growing efforts within the ruling establishment to replace Shettima, Bwala argued that there is no crisis within the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress. According to him, the vice president remains a key figure in the administration’s political strategy and continues to work closely with President Tinubu toward securing victory for the APC in 2027.
Bwala said the rumours were part of deliberate attempts by political opponents to weaken the strong partnership between Tinubu and Shettima. He maintained that despite repeated speculations, both leaders remain committed to a shared vision of building a stronger and more united Nigeria.
According to him, those promoting the narrative of a possible replacement for Shettima are merely trying to create division within the party, particularly in the North where the vice president enjoys significant political influence and grassroots support.
He stressed that rather than being distracted by speculation, the Tinubu administration has continued to focus on governance, economic growth, national unity, and preparations for future electoral success.
Bwala further noted that Vice President Shettima has remained loyal to the administration and actively engaged with party stakeholders and communities across the northern region, strengthening the APC’s political base ahead of the next elections.
He added that the partnership between Tinubu and Shettima is built on trust, mutual respect, and a common goal of delivering development, stability, and prosperity for Nigerians. According to him, the combination of Tinubu’s political experience and Shettima’s regional influence has continued to strengthen the ruling party’s position nationwide.
The writer also cautioned critics against spreading unverified claims capable of creating unnecessary tension within the political space, insisting that such reports undermine democratic values and distract from issues of governance and national development.
Bwala concluded that the Tinubu-Shettima alliance remains solid and focused on delivering the promises of the administration, including improvements in infrastructure, security, job creation, and education.
