The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday welcomed a high-level delegation from the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. The delegation, led by the association’s National President, Comrade Haruna Mamman, visited to foster stronger collaboration between both institutions and to tackle the growing concern of quack practices in the healthcare sector.
Also present at the meeting were members of the Force Management Team, the Director of the Directorate of Force Medical Services, AIG Nkechi Eze, alongside other senior police officers. The NANNM delegation included key executives such as Comrade Bornbless Obasi, Comrade Jama Medan, Mrs. Adeboye Christianah, Mrs. Ampitan Evelyn, Comrade Oluwatoyin Ofere, Mr. Amusa Kazeem, Mrs. Ekong Omowumi, Mr. Olugbade Taiwo, and Mrs. Balogun Omosalewa.

The visit centered on deepening cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and healthcare professionals, with a shared goal of protecting lives. During the meeting, Comrade Mamman raised serious concerns about the growing number of unlicensed medical practitioners operating across the country. He warned that many unsuspecting Nigerians are falling victim to these quacks, a trend that not only endangers public health but also erodes the credibility of the medical profession. To address this, the NANNM leadership appealed to the Inspector-General of Police for support in tackling the problem and safeguarding patients.
In his response, the IGP praised the vital contributions of nurses and midwives to the nation’s healthcare system. He likened their work to that of the police, noting that both professions demand skill, integrity, compassion, and a strong commitment to serving people, especially in difficult and vulnerable moments. He emphasized that these shared values create a natural bond between the two fields.
