Speaking on Saturday in Iperu, Ogun State, during the commissioning of the Gateway Cargo International Airport—an initiative of Governor Dapo Abiodun—the President emphasized that these investments are people-centered. He also unveiled two newly acquired aircraft for the Gateway Airline.
According to him, the projects reflect a strong belief in Nigeria’s future, noting that the foundations being laid today are meant to secure long-term growth and prosperity. He expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their continued patience and support.
President Tinubu further commended Governor Abiodun for his dedication to the welfare of Ogun State residents and Nigerians as a whole. He added that the newly inaugurated airport is powered by an independent energy source, highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s power infrastructure.

He made this known on Saturday in Iperu, Ogun State, during the commissioning of the Gateway Cargo International Airport, a project executed under Governor Dapo Abiodun. During the event, the President also unveiled two new aircraft for the Gateway Airline.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Tinubu emphasized that every investment made by his administration is people-centered. According to him, these projects reflect a strong belief in Nigeria’s future, noting that the efforts being made today are laying the groundwork for long-term prosperity.
He praised Governor Abiodun for his dedication to the welfare of the people of Ogun State and Nigerians in general. The President also highlighted that the newly commissioned airport is powered independently, showcasing ongoing investments in the energy sector.
“Development must reach every level,” he said, adding that he was particularly impressed with the strides made in transportation, security, and agriculture. As part of the event, he also launched 1,000 electric bikes, security vehicles, and tractors.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their continued support of the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that recent reforms have increased resources available to states. He commended governors across the country for using these resources responsibly, while also applauding Governor Abiodun for aligning Ogun State’s development plans with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
On the introduction of electric bikes, the President described it as a forward-thinking move that embraces technology and reduces reliance on fossil fuels, improving everyday life for citizens.
He also praised the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for initiatives that have improved the ease of doing business and enhanced staff welfare, noting that his contributions and patriotism would be remembered.
During the visit, the President commissioned a Customs Hub, which includes barracks, a training college, a warehouse, and a hospital.
In his remarks, Governor Abiodun described the President’s visit as historic, saying it reflects his commitment to national growth and his confidence in states as key drivers of development. He credited the Renewed Hope Agenda with setting Nigeria on the path of economic recovery, fiscal discipline, and sustainable growth.
The governor also highlighted key reforms such as the unification of the foreign exchange rate, removal of fuel subsidy, and efforts to reposition public finance, noting that these steps have helped rebuild investor confidence and attract foreign investment. He added that improvements in tax administration, digitalisation, and institutional strengthening are addressing long-standing economic challenges.
He further pointed to major national projects and initiatives, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Badagry-Sokoto Highway, rail modernisation, and reforms in the oil and gas sector, as signs of a deliberate effort to reset Nigeria’s economy.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio also spoke at the event, praising President Tinubu’s democratic credentials and reaffirming the role of the National Assembly in sustaining democracy. He acknowledged the President’s contributions, including pioneering independent power projects in Lagos, a model now adopted by other states.
Akpabio, however, urged the decentralisation of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to improve efficiency in the power sector. He also commended the President’s support for internally generated revenue, noting that it has strengthened states financially and reduced their reliance on borrowing.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, speaking on behalf of the people of Ogun State, thanked President Tinubu for what he described as visionary and purposeful leadership. Reflecting on the state’s history, he noted how far Ogun has come over the past 50 years, attributing the progress to the efforts of successive leaders.
The event was attended by several top government officials, including the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo; Minister of Communications, Bosun Tijani; and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso. Governors from several states, as well as traditional rulers, were also in attendance.
