As part of activities commemorating the 2026 National Police Day, the Lagos State Police Command today organised a Security Stakeholders’ Meeting, alongside the presentation of cheques to families of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The gathering brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the Lagos State Command’s Eminent Persons Forum, community and religious leaders, as well as representatives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria. The aim was to strengthen collaboration and build public trust through active community engagement.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their consistent support in maintaining safety and preventing crime. He stressed the need for continued cooperation, noting that effective policing depends on strong partnerships, swift responses to emergencies, and a shared commitment to peace and order.
He also drew attention to key security challenges such as cultism and election-related violence, assuring attendees that the Command remains focused on intelligence-driven policing and the use of modern technology to improve its operations.
In a touching highlight of the event, a total of ₦53,387,209.48 was presented to the families of fallen officers under the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme. The gesture reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing commitment to supporting the loved ones of personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
Beneficiaries of the scheme expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Lagos State Police Command, noting that the support would go a long way in easing their burdens. Reassuring them further, the Commissioner emphasised that the bravery and sacrifice of fallen officers will always be honoured, and that the Force will continue to stand by their families.
