Following a press briefing held on March 23, 2026, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the Nigeria Police Force has officially announced the kick-off of the 2026 National Police Day celebrations.
Speaking on behalf of the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Force Public Relations Officer unveiled a week-long lineup of activities set to begin on Monday, March 30, 2026, and conclude with a grand finale on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
This year’s theme, “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” highlights the Police Force’s renewed focus on fostering stronger ties with the public, promoting transparency, and building lasting trust as a cornerstone of effective policing.
To ensure a smooth and successful celebration, an organizing committee has been put in place. It is chaired by AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel, with DCP Anthony Okon Placid serving as Secretary. The committee includes senior officers drawn from key departments such as the FCID, PMF, EOD-CBRN, and Medical Services.
Planned Activities Include:
Monday, March 30 (Day 1): Nationwide environmental sanitation exercises alongside free medical outreach programmes, especially targeting vulnerable members of the public.
Tuesday, March 31 (Day 2): A National Walkathon across state capitals aimed at promoting unity and strengthening police-community relations.
Wednesday, April 1 (Day 3): Public awareness campaigns addressing the risks of electoral violence and emphasizing safe driving practices.
Thursday, April 2 (Day 4): Tribute to fallen officers through the presentation of cheques to their families at the Force Headquarters and various State Commands.
Tuesday, April 7 (Grand Finale): A ceremonial parade at Eagle Square, Abuja, featuring tactical demonstrations by specialized units such as the PMF, K-9, EOD, and CTU, showcasing the Force’s readiness and capabilities.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to a people-focused policing approach built on trust, respect, and collaboration. Members of the public, community leaders, civil society groups, and all stakeholders are encouraged to take part in the scheduled activities.
