As Retirement Aligns with His 60th Birthday 🎉
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has honoured the retirement of one of its top officers, Dera Nnadi, Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG), bringing to a close a remarkable career marked by dedication to national service and institutional growth.
The colourful ceremony took place on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja. It brought together members of the NCS management team, senior officers, family members, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the achievements of the retiring officer. The event carried added significance as it coincided with Nnadi’s 60th birthday, making the occasion both a farewell celebration and a milestone birthday tribute.
Leading the tributes was the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who described DCG Nnadi as a model officer whose professionalism, discipline, and unwavering commitment to duty greatly strengthened the values and operational efficiency of the Service.
According to the CGC, the retirement ceremony was not only a moment to celebrate a successful career but also an opportunity to recognise the sacrifices made by officers who dedicate their lives to protecting the nation’s economic and border security. He noted that Nnadi’s years of service reflect the core principles of the Customs Service, particularly in leadership, revenue generation, and trade facilitation.
“Today is a day of celebration and reflection,” Adeniyi said. “It is also a moment to thank Almighty God for the grace that has sustained our colleague throughout his years of service.”
The Comptroller-General also spoke about the strong personal and professional relationship he shares with the retiree, noting that their bond goes beyond official duties and extends into family ties. He expressed confidence that, even in retirement, Nnadi still has the experience, energy, and wisdom to continue contributing to national development, particularly through academic and professional engagements.
