Governor Abiodun Commissions Phase II of Imashayi–Igan-Okoto–Ayetoro Road in Yewa North
The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday officially commissioned Phase II of the Imashayi–Igan-Okoto–Ayetoro Road in Yewa North Local Government Area, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to completing the final phase of this critical project.
At the ceremony, Governor Abiodun assured residents that the last stretch of the road would soon be completed, fully connecting the corridor to Ayetoro and boosting both transportation and economic activity in the region.
The governor also instructed the Ministry of Housing to immediately inspect the Youth Development Centre in the area and begin renovations to upgrade the facility for local youths.
Acknowledging that it is not possible to reconstruct every road in the state simultaneously, Abiodun emphasized that his administration would continue delivering road infrastructure across all three senatorial districts until the end of his tenure.
Describing Yewa North as one of Ogun State’s key food baskets, the governor stressed the importance of linking farming communities with major towns to ease the movement of agricultural produce to markets. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the infrastructural and economic growth of Yewaland and Ogun West, areas that had historically been neglected but are now receiving sustained attention.
“Today, we have completed over 20 road projects in Yewaland and Ogun West. While this may seem modest in number, many of these roads are extensive, each equivalent to six or seven smaller projects in other districts. For example, the Agbara–Atan–Lusada Road is a 20-kilometre dual carriageway, counted as a single project. The same applies to the Ilaro–Owode Road and several others currently under construction, recently awarded, or soon to be awarded,” he explained.
Governor Abiodun further assured residents that his administration would continue providing purposeful, impactful, and inclusive leadership through the implementation of both micro and macroeconomic policies.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his bold reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s economy, noting that these policies are already yielding positive results. Abiodun specifically praised the ongoing construction of the 1,000-kilometre Badagry–Sokoto Highway, highlighting that upon completion, travel time between Imeko and Lagos could drop to under an hour.
“I want to thank Mr. President. Without your support, many states could have faced financial crises. We are grateful for stable fuel supplies and an improving exchange rate. Today, Ogun State stands out as a top destination for investors and the fastest-growing economy in Nigeria,” the governor said.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, noted that Phase II of the 21-kilometre Imashayi–Igan-Okoto–Ayetoro Road includes reinforced concrete structures in flood-prone areas to prevent erosion and flooding. He explained that the project was divided into three phases to ensure efficient construction.
Akinsanya added that the road is a major link between Ayetoro and surrounding towns, and its reconstruction has already enhanced the movement of farm produce, improved service delivery, strengthened security, and elevated the overall quality of life for residents.

The Iyaloja General of Ogun State, Chief (Mrs.) Yemisi Abass, lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for keeping his promise to complete the second phase of the road, a commitment he made during the launch of the first phase. She encouraged the governor to also finish the final stretch, emphasizing that it would bring even greater development to the area.
Echoing this sentiment, the Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, praised the governor for the project, highlighting how the improved road would support local farmers. He revealed that the local government distributed 11,000 cash crop seedlings to farmers last year and has plans to distribute around 30,000 cocoa, cashew, and palm seedlings this year.
Also weighing in, Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, the representative of Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, commended Governor Abiodun for his commitment to improving residents’ lives through infrastructure development. He described the road reconstruction as a significant relief for communities along the corridor, pointing out that it had long been neglected by past administrations.
The Adokun of Igan-Okoto, Oba Mukaila Akanbi Salako, also expressed gratitude to the governor for linking the community to Ayetoro and appealed for the timely completion of the third and final phase of the 21-kilometre Imashayi–Igan-Okoto–Ayetoro Road.
