A former police officer and businessman, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia, has thrown his weight behind the Federal Government’s security initiatives following his official defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ajia made the declaration during a familiarisation visit to Mogaji Ngeri Ward in Ilorin, where he was formally received into the party. At the Gegele ward secretariat, the ward chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Muritala Oforo, presented him with the APC broom symbol amid applause from party members and residents.
The event drew several political stakeholders, including the Executive Chairman of Ilorin West Local Government, Hon. Shehu Abdulrahman Babatunde Ladan, Senior Special Assistant (Political) Hon. Suleiman Aremu Saikai, women leader Hajia Bukola Galadima, youth leader Abdulwahab Abaya, and other community figures. Many described his entry into the party as a boost for grassroots mobilisation.
Speaking after receiving his membership, Ajia said his decision came after months of consultations and reflection with supporters and community leaders. He explained that his move was driven by patriotism and a desire to contribute meaningfully to national stability.
Reflecting on his time in the Nigeria Police Force, which he left in 2017, Ajia stressed that tackling insecurity requires more than force. He called for stronger intelligence gathering, community involvement and closer collaboration between citizens and security agencies.
According to him, criminality should not be framed along ethnic or religious lines, insisting that criminals are enemies of the state and must be treated as such.
Ajia expressed confidence in the security direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, highlighting the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa. He noted, however, that federal strategies must be reinforced by cooperation at the grassroots level to achieve lasting peace.
He assured party leaders that his involvement in the APC would centre on civic mobilisation, public awareness and encouraging stronger community participation in government programmes to deepen their impact locally.
Dismissing claims that his defection was motivated by personal ambition, Ajia maintained that his political engagement is rooted in service and national interest. He urged Nigerians to remain supportive of ongoing reforms despite temporary difficulties.
Supporters at the event expressed confidence that his background in security and public service would strengthen party structures and improve public trust in governance.
Ajia concluded by reaffirming his readiness to work with authorities at all levels to promote peace, stability and better living conditions for Nigerians.
