Rather than extending goodwill and congratulations, certain politicians believed to be antagonistic toward the Minister have allegedly sponsored online platforms and traditional media to portray the weddings negatively. This reaction appears to overlook not only the Minister’s long-standing generosity but also the rich African and Northern cultural traditions that celebrate communal responsibility, compassion, and family.
An insider who has worked closely with Matawalle since the late 1990s, when he served as a commissioner under the administration of Sani Ahmad Yarima, offered deeper insight. According to the source, Matawalle at the time had two wives and two young children aged between four and seven, yet he organized weddings for six grown girls who all bore his name. Some of these girls, the insider revealed, were children of his political associates and relatives whom he had taken in and raised as his own.
Another long-serving domestic staff member, who spent nearly 20 years working with the Minister, confirmed this spirit of inclusiveness. He recalled that Matawalle consistently instructed his household staff to treat every child living under his roof as his biological son or daughter, without distinction.
Yet another staff member added that God has blessed the Honourable Minister with a lifelong habit of quietly extending care, support, and opportunity to children from less-privileged backgrounds. “This has been his way for decades,” the aide noted, expressing confidence that Matawalle’s compassion and generosity remain unchanged.
