The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare of members of the Armed Forces and their families, stressing that their wellbeing remains a top priority as they continue the critical task of safeguarding the nation.
The Minister made this known during an inter-denominational church service held on Sunday, 11 January 2026, in Abuja, as part of activities marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
Delivering the vote of thanks, General Musa expressed profound appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices of Nigerian military personnel and their families, honouring those who lost their lives in the line of duty as well as those who continue to serve with courage and resilience.
“We pay solemn tribute to the gallant men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Their bravery and selflessness will always be remembered,” he said.
He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and continued support for the welfare of the Armed Forces, while calling on Nigerians to stand united with the government in confronting the nation’s security challenges, including terrorism, kidnapping and banditry. He expressed confidence that the country would ultimately prevail.
The sermon at the service was delivered by the Most Reverend Uche Okafor of the Presbyterian Church, Abuja. Drawing from 2 Chronicles 32:5–8 and titled “Gratitude, Encouragement and Spiritual Security,” he commended the Armed Forces for their sacrifices and unwavering commitment to protecting the nation. He noted that while others flee from danger, soldiers confront it head-on in defence of the people.
Reverend Okafor encouraged members of the Armed Forces not to lose heart, urging Nigerians to continue to support and uplift them. He emphasised that their service goes beyond national duty, describing it as service to God and humanity. He offered prayers for divine protection, strength and courage for the military, reminding them not to be afraid in the face of challenges.
He further expressed hope for a better Nigeria and confidence that the Armed Forces would overcome the nation’s enemies. However, he cautioned the military to remain professional, neutral and patriotic as the 2027 general elections approach.
