The Chancellor of Summit University, Offa, and Chairman of Rite Foods Limited, Dr. Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa, OFR, has underscored the life-changing value of quality education, describing it as the most rewarding investment any society can make.

Dr. Adegunwa made the remark during the combined 5th and 6th convocation ceremony of the university, held at the Alhaja Adiat Abegbe Makanjuola Lecture Theatre. He praised the dedication and financial sacrifices of stakeholders, noting that their support continues to shape the university’s steady growth and strong foundation.
“This convocation is more than a ceremony—it is a celebration of our collective progress,” he said. “Investing in knowledge yields the best dividends. What we are building at Summit University is an investment that will outlive us and benefit future generations.”
He appealed to philanthropists and well-meaning Nigerians to continue supporting the university’s development efforts, stressing that broad collaboration is needed to expand access to quality education and uplift society.
Reflecting on the university’s journey, Dr. Adegunwa highlighted its remarkable growth since he became the pioneer Chancellor in December 2023. He noted that academic programmes have doubled—from eight to 16—within a year, and six programmes recently secured full reaccreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
He attributed these achievements to the commitment and strategic foresight of the Management, Governing Council, and Board of Trustees.
On infrastructure, the Chancellor revealed that four major buildings had been initiated since the last convocation—one already completed and two nearing completion. He expressed gratitude to donors such as Mosun Belo-Olusoga, describing their generosity as a catalyst for the institution’s progress.
Dr. Adegunwa also announced that the university is preparing for resource verification for the proposed College of Law and College of Health Sciences. He expressed confidence that both colleges would be operational by the next convocation.
In addition, Summit University has received approval to establish a Campus FM Radio Station—a development he said will deepen community engagement and position the institution as a key contributor to knowledge and public enlightenment, especially in the fight against misinformation and poverty.
The ceremony also featured the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on notable personalities including Aderemi Muyideen Makanjuola and Lateefat Olufunke Gbajabiamila, as well as a posthumous degree in Business Administration awarded to the late Tiamiyu Adebisi Olatinwo.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Abiodun Musa Aibinu, in his remarks, thanked the Chancellor for funding the ongoing Senate Building project, now 30% complete. He noted that the structure will significantly boost the university’s academic and administrative operations.
Prof. Aibinu announced that 319 students graduated this year—26 with first-class honours, 164 with second-class upper, 108 with second-class lower, 25 with third-class, and one with a pass. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to promoting innovation, research, and academic excellence.
