The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has added another milestone to his distinguished record of service as he emerges the new President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF). His election underscores his long-standing commitment to national development, leadership excellence, and youth empowerment through sports.

The election, conducted on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Gymnasium Hall, Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, was overseen by the National Sports Commission. The process received widespread praise from athletes, coaches, and sports administrators, who described the outcome as both timely and strategic for the advancement of Nigerian sports.
Before stepping into this new role, CGC Adeniyi had already made a significant mark in sports administration. Under his leadership, the Nigeria Customs Service Sports Unit has grown into one of the country’s most successful sporting institutions—producing national champions, Olympians, and inspiring athletes across multiple disciplines.
Speaking shortly after his election, CGC Adeniyi commended the ongoing reforms within Nigeria’s sports sector, expressing optimism about the positive direction of the country’s sports administration.
“I’m beginning to see the dividends of the reforms President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is implementing in the sports sector—putting the right people, the right systems, and the right processes in place. It’s an environment where I believe we can truly work, thrive, and deliver results,” he said.
Adeniyi reaffirmed his commitment to align the Federation’s vision with the national sports reform agenda. He pledged to work closely with board members to strengthen the Federation’s structure, promote transparency, enhance athlete development, and introduce innovative management practices that will sustain long-term growth in Nigerian wrestling.
Stakeholders have expressed strong confidence in his leadership, describing him as a strategic thinker and team-oriented leader whose track record of professionalism and integrity will bring renewed energy, accountability, and inclusiveness to the wrestling community.
