The recognition follows the successful completion of an Integrated Management System (IMS) Certification Audit at Dangote Cement’s Obajana Plant in Kogi State. Conducted by a team of SON experts led by Mrs. Ijeoma Nkechi Ohaemesi, the week-long audit assessed the plant’s compliance with international standards in quality management, environmental stewardship, and occupational health and safety.
Commending the achievement, the SON team noted that Dangote Cement’s relentless pursuit of improvement across its operations has set a benchmark for quality, innovation, and sustainability in Nigeria’s industrial landscape.
Sani Mikail, ISO System Coordinator for Dangote Group, explained that the company’s adoption of ISO management systems across its plants was initiated by Group President and CEO, Aliko Dangote, with guidance from Group Vice President (Oil & Gas), Mr. Devakumar Edwin. Since 2010, these systems have delivered measurable gains in efficiency and value creation across the business.
Mr. Azad Nawabuddin, Plant Director at Obajana, described the IMS framework as a powerful tool for continuous process enhancement, while company representative Kommineni Suresh noted that Obajana is among the first cement factories in Nigeria to earn the IMS certification.
Applauding the milestone, Mrs. Ohaemesi highlighted that the certification process reinforces alignment with global management system standards and strengthens overall business performance.
Akindele Temitope, the IMS Team Lead at Obajana, attributed the success to strong leadership and collective effort: “This achievement was possible because management and staff shared the same vision of excellence. It will further improve quality, safety, compliance, and communication across our operations.”
