Born on July 5, 1935, Oba Olakulehin was crowned the 43rd Olubadan on July 12, 2024, following the passing of Oba Lekan Balogun. A respected community leader, he became a uniting force among Ibadan’s diverse lineages, recognized for his calm wisdom and dedication to cultural heritage.
Confirmation of his death came from Toye Arulogun, a former Oyo State Commissioner of Information and member of the Olubadan media team, who announced that an official statement would follow shortly.
Oba Olakulehin’s passing occurred amid celebrations marking both his 90th birthday and the first anniversary of his coronation. Sources indicate he had been unwell even before assuming the throne, though his spirit remained strong throughout the joyous occasion.
His reign, though brief, was marked by initiatives promoting unity and peaceful development in the region. His leadership helped consolidate traditional structures while fostering community cohesion. Amid the outpouring of grief in Ibadan, attention now turns to succession. The Otun Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja—currently abroad—is expected to return soon to oversee the traditional rites and transition process.
Funeral arrangements and state mourning protocols will be formally announced by the Oyo State Government and the Olubadan-in-Council in the coming days.
