During his courtesy visit to National Security Adviser (NSA) Malam Nuhu Ribadu on Thursday, March 6, 2025, he brought up this topic and emphasised NCS’s efforts to use geospatial technology to improve enforcement, intelligence collection, and surveillance throughout Nigeria’s land and maritime borders.
CGC Adeniyi, who spoke during the visit, underlined the importance of technology in contemporary border management and pointed out that the Service had made great strides in incorporating state-of-the-art technologies to fight transnational crimes like trafficking and smuggling. “In today’s quickly changing security environment, technology continues to be the key to efficient border control.
The Nigeria Customs Service is dedicated to using geospatial technology and other cutting-edge instruments to improve our capacity for enforcement, intelligence collection, and surveillance. These initiatives aim to solve Nigeria’s particular border security issues while adhering to global best standards, said CGC Adeniyi.
The CGC went on to say that the technology-driven programs will help the country stop illegal trade while also enabling smooth, legal cross-border transactions. In response, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Advisor, affirmed that technology is essential to preserving Nigeria’s territorial integrity and praised the Nigeria Customs Service for its proactive approach to border security and trade facilitation. “The Customs Service has shown an admirable dedication to efficiency and modernity in protecting our borders.
Incorporating cutting-edge technology into border control is a positive move that nicely complements our larger national security goals. “We have no doubt that these innovations will improve border control operations without impeding lawful trade,” the NSA said.
The NSA promised the CGC that it would continue to support the Nigeria Customs Service’s modernisation agenda, highlighting the necessity of operational coordination and intelligence sharing in tandem, even as the meeting reaffirmed the significance of interagency cooperation in combating security threats and maintaining national stability.
