Leading mass-production furniture manufacturer H&Y Furniture Manufacturers Limited is working with the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB) to increase youth capacity in contemporary furniture manufacturing in an effort to close the skills gap in Nigeria’s furniture industry.

The Executive Secretary of LASTVEB and other top board officials led a courtesy visit and facilities tour of H&Y Furniture Manufacturers’ state-of-the-art semi-automated plant in Ibeshe, Ikorodu, Lagos, on Wednesday, when the partnership was announced.
During the tour, H&Y Furniture Manufacturers’ Managing Director, Mrs Feyisola Abiru, emphasised the importance of providing young Nigerians with standardised vocational skills that are in line with international best practices.
Instilling the company’s fundamental principles of Excellence, Partnership, Integrity, Innovation, and Customer Care, as well as building a trained staff, are the goals of H&Y Woodcraft EPIIC Academy, the company’s training arm, she said. Vocational skills training needs to be given priority if Nigeria is to realise its full potential.

H&Y Furniture Manufacturers’ dedication to national socio-economic development through skill acquisition and capacity-building initiatives was praised by LASTVEB Executive Secretary Mrs. Azeez, who praised the effort.
She reiterated LASTVEB’s willingness to engage with H&Y Woodcraft Academy via its technical college network in order to bolster Nigeria’s highly qualified labour force in the furniture sector.
This collaboration is a significant step in promoting technical education, increasing the employability of young people, and setting up Nigeria’s furniture manufacturing sector for international competitiveness.
