“I will receive a response in due course, but Peter Odili’s statement regarding Wike is absurd.” Lere Olayinka

Lere Olayinka, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister and Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has called remarks made against his principal by Dr. Peter Odili, a former governor of Rivers state, “disappointing.”

Olayinka lamented Dr. Odili’s decline in statesmanship, claiming the previous governor had devolved into absurd partisanship. Wike would give Odili a well-earned answer in the days ahead. I’m disturbed that someone who ought to be behaving like an elder statesman should descend to such absurd levels of partisanship after reading the remarks made by former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili about FCT Minister Nyesom Wike today.

“Well, the FCT Minister will give him the response he deserves in due time,” Olayinka stated on Saturday evening. According to a comment from Dr. Odili, Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers, prevented Wike from converting the state into a private estate. Speaking at a Christmas ballad he organised for Governor Fubara and his family, Odili claimed the governor mustered extraordinary strength to oppose Wike’s attempt to seize Rivers state through a bloody but needless political conflict.

He remarked, “Governor Fubara faced the challenge, stopped one man’s attempt to seize the State as a private property, freed the Rivers people, stabilised governance, and made the Rivers people and civil servants happier than they had been before.”
