The Nigerian Super Falcons are still ranked 36th in the most recent FIFA World Ranking. On Friday, August 16, 2024, the revised ranking was made available on the world football governing body’s official website.

The Falcons are still the best team in Africa, with Banyana Banyana of South Africa coming in second. Their position is not surprising given their underwhelming showing at the Olympics in Paris this summer. In a competitive group that includes world winners Spain, Brazil, and Japan as well as Olympic finalists, the Falcons came in last.
The Falcons lost 1-0 to Brazil in their first game, and then they lost 1-0 to Spain in their second game. The team was dissatisfied with their Olympic debut after losing 3-1 against Japan in their encounter. Zambia, Africa’s other delegate to Paris, rose to 62nd position in the standings. In their second Olympic campaign, the Zambians, like the Falcons, lost all three of their group matches.
Other African teams that saw improvements were Tunisia, placed 58th, and South Africa, which is currently in 50th place. The gold medallists from the Olympics in Paris, the United States, took back the top spot, followed by Brazil, who went up to ninth place, and Spain, who dropped to third.
On December 20, 2024, the FIFA Women’s World Ranking will be revealed.
