According to official media, Ethiopian Airlines has secured a contract for the design of a new $6 billion airport, dubbed the largest in Africa.

When finished in five years, the new hub would be able to accommodate 100 million people annually, according to a statement made by Mesfin Tasew, the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, during a news conference on Friday.
He stated that in order to establish the design for the airport, which would have four runways, Ethiopian Airlines and the Dubai-based consultancy firm Dar have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). According to him, it will cover 35 square kilometres (13.5 square miles) and be constructed at Bishoftu, which is roughly 40 kilometres (25 miles) southeast of Addis Ababa, the capital.
According to state-affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporate, Mesfin stated that “the first phase includes the construction of the airport facility with a capacity of 60 million passengers per year and the completion of phase two of the airport project will grow to handle more than 100 million passengers per year.” Attending the press briefing, Dar director of operations Tariq Al-Qanni stated that when finished, it will be the largest airport in Africa, according to Fana.
Mesfin continued, “The agreement’s scope is for Dar to develop the new airport’s detailed design while also helping Ethiopian Airlines choose the contractors who will build the new airport facilities.” The biggest airline in Africa, Ethiopian Airlines, reported $7 billion in revenue for the fiscal year 2023–2024 last month, with 17.1 million passengers carried.
