Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director and CEO of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), has chosen not to run for the Lagos State Man of the Year Award (LASMAYA) 2024.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, Dr. Gbadegesin conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the award organisers for giving him a chance to receive such a prestigious recognition.
Although he accepted the distinction, he stressed that the LAWMA team’s and the people of Lagos’s overall efforts in addressing waste management issues were more worthy of praise.
“While deeply humbled by the recognition, I believe that the collective efforts of the LAWMA team and the entire Lagos citizenry in addressing waste management challenges are more deserving of such accolades,” Dr. Gbadegesin said.
He continued by asking the people to abstain from voting for him, emphasising his dedication to LAWMA’s continuing purpose. He declared, “To this end, I’m declining the nomination and ask the public not to vote for me.”
Reiterating his commitment to enhancing Lagos State’s waste management system, Dr. Gbadegesin promised to carry out LAWMA’s duty to guarantee a more sustainable and clean environment for all citizens. The Centre for Policy Development and Political Studies, which honours the achievements of select private citizens and government officials to the state’s development, organises the Lagos State Man of the Year Award (LASMAYA).
