President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa (Rtd) as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, citing his vast experience, strategic expertise, and remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s security system.
The appointment was conveyed in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana. The statement noted that the move reflects the Tinubu administration’s resolve to strengthen internal security coordination, improve intelligence-led operations, and promote stronger collaboration among security agencies in tackling emerging threats nationwide.
Major General Fadewa (Rtd) is a highly respected retired military officer with more than 30 years of distinguished service in military intelligence, counter-terrorism, national security strategy, and international security relations. Throughout his career, he earned recognition for his operational excellence, strategic leadership, and dedication to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and national interests.
Between 2015 and 2021, he served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), where he played a key role in strengthening Nigeria’s intelligence coordination system. He led the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC), a multi-agency intelligence platform designed to enhance cooperation among agencies such as the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces for improved threat assessment and coordinated response.
After retiring from active service, Fadewa continued contributing to national security development as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja. There, he focused on policing reforms, civil-security cooperation, and broader national security issues. He is also the author of the acclaimed monograph, “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” which provides practical insights into improving collaboration between civil authorities and security institutions.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Major General Fadewa’s appointment would further strengthen efforts to build a safer and more secure Nigeria through better intelligence integration, proactive risk management, and enhanced homeland security coordination.
The President also urged him to bring his experience, professionalism, and strategic insight to bear in advancing the administration’s national security objectives and supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda.
