The All Progressives Congress (APC) has revised its timetable for the 2027 general election primaries, moving the presidential primary from May 15–16 to May 23, 2026, while the governorship primary is now scheduled for May 21, 2026.
The change was announced in Abuja after the party’s 186th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting by Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko. He explained that the adjustment aligns with the Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s updated election guidelines.
As part of the new schedule, several earlier activities have also been shifted, including the screening of aspirants. Screening will now run from May 6 to May 8 for legislative and governorship candidates, while presidential aspirants will be screened on May 9. Results will be released on May 11, followed by appeal hearings between May 12 and May 13.
The party’s primaries will take place in stages: House of Representatives on May 15, Senate on May 18, State Assembly on May 20, Governorship on May 21, and Presidential on May 23, 2026. Appeals for each category are also scheduled shortly after their respective primaries.
Meseko added that the APC also approved its timetable for ward, local government, and state congresses in Zamfara State, which will begin on April 28, 2026, running through early May with screening, congresses, and appeal processes.
He further clarified that the party will use both direct and consensus methods for selecting candidates, in line with the Electoral Act. However, aspirants who do not agree to consensus arrangements will automatically proceed to direct primaries.
He also dismissed rumours suggesting that nomination forms would be restricted, stressing that all interested aspirants are free to purchase forms without limitation.
Meanwhile, INEC has fixed the 2027 general elections for January 16 (presidential and National Assembly) and February 6 (governorship and state assemblies), with party primaries expected to be concluded between April 23 and May 30, 2026. Campaigns will begin in August and September 2026 for federal and state elections respectively.
