Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command’s Quick Response Squad (QRS) have arrested a man and his teenage son for allegedly being in possession of an illegal firearm.
The suspects, identified as 38-year-old Joseph Kehinde and his 13-year-old son, John Joseph, were apprehended along the Shagamu/Ogijo Road.
The incident occurred on Sunday, April 5, 2026, around 11:00 a.m., when QRS operatives were conducting a routine stop-and-search operation at the Lafarge area on the Shagamu/Ogijo Road. During the exercise, they stopped a tricycle carrying the teenage suspect. A search on him led to the discovery of a locally made pistol, a live cartridge, and a mask, none of which he could clearly account for. He, however, told officers that the weapon belonged to his father.
Acting on this information, the operatives launched a follow-up operation, which resulted in the arrest of the father, Joseph Kehinde.
Both suspects, along with the recovered items, have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. Police say efforts are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case, and the suspects will be charged in court once investigations are concluded.

He reaffirmed the Command’s strict stance against illegal firearms and other criminal activities, assuring residents of continued efforts to maintain safety and security across the state.
