Dauda Lawal has flagged off the distribution of fertilizers and essential farm inputs to dry-season farmers across Zamfara State, in a major move aimed at strengthening agricultural productivity and improving food security.

The distribution ceremony held at the Ministry of Agriculture’s Fadama III facility in Gusau marked the state government’s renewed commitment to empowering farmers and revitalising agriculture, described by the governor as the backbone of Zamfara’s economy.
Thousands of farming inputs were distributed to support smallholder farmers, including 3,920 bags of NPK fertilizer, 1,956 bags of Urea fertilizer, herbicides, insecticides, and seed-dressing chemicals designed to enhance crop growth, protect harvests, and promote sustainable farming practices.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the intervention is expected to increase crop yields, minimise post-harvest losses, and improve farmers’ incomes during the dry farming season.
Governor Lawal noted that the initiative aligns with the objectives of the NG-CARES programme, which has supported thousands of farmers through improved seeds, agrochemicals, and agricultural advisory services.
He also acknowledged security challenges affecting farming communities, assuring residents that his administration is simultaneously strengthening security measures to enable safe and sustainable agricultural activities.
Emphasising collaboration, the governor urged farmers to maximise the opportunity while working with government efforts to secure their communities and boost local food production.
The initiative forms part of Zamfara State’s broader strategy to reduce dependence on food imports, enhance rural livelihoods, and position agriculture as a key driver of economic growth and long-term development.
