Following the arrest of suspected vandals of the Abuja Highway Sewage Manhole Covers, security agencies

The security services have detained a few of the alleged thieves who were removing the covers from sewage manholes on Abuja’s highways. Additionally, efforts are being undertaken to capture their accomplices, particularly the manhole cover purchasers.

As instructed by Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), pertinent stakeholders are already making great efforts to prevent this criminal element vandalism, and the public will be informed when the time is right.

The Minister expressed regret that Nigerians might go so far as to remove and sell sewage manhole covers on roads, endangering the lives of drivers.

The government will take all necessary steps to hold those responsible accountable. He expressed sadness that the government would spend public money to install facilities for Nigerians to use, only to have criminal Nigerians take them down and sell them to other Nigerians, who don’t care how dangerous their illegal operations are to their fellow citizens.

The FCT Minister expressed gratitude to Nigerians, praising the individual who took the time to record the widely shared video and characterising his endeavour as a show of patriotism that the nation had long yearned for.
