According to a communiqué released following the summit, which brought together important stakeholders from all around the nation, the gathering produced important decisions intended to improve local administration in Nigeria. The NEC conveyed its sincere appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast assistance in enabling local governments to carry out their constitutional duties.
On behalf of the members’ communiqué committee, Hon. Hamisu Anani Mohammed, the National Publicity Secretary of ALGON, said, “We are deeply appreciative of President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening local governance.” The courts received praise for playing a crucial part in establishing a workable local government structure that reflects the wishes of the general public. In order to foster stability and accountability, the ALGON NEC recognised the judiciary’s efforts to make sure local governments follow the law.
The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and state governors’ efforts to hold elections throughout local government areas were also praised by the NEC. The NEC encouraged the remaining states to emulate the more than 30 states that currently have democratically chosen chairman in order to fully implement President Tinubu’s vision of a people-oriented government.
“We appreciate the Governors for the uninterrupted access given to the Chairmen to run their local councils, ensuring that democratic dividends reach the people,” Mohammed remarked. The NEC reaffirmed its commitment to good governance and promised to strengthen its ties with stakeholders by encouraging openness, responsibility, creative service, and consistency in grassroots service delivery.
The foundations of transparent governance were emphasised as being effective communication and community involvement. Governors Monday Okpebholo of Edo State and Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State received congratulations from the NEC on their recent elections. Additionally, Mallam (Engr) Dikko Umar Radda (CON), the Executive Governor of Katsina State, was commended for holding the 51st NEC Zonal conference.
The NEC commended the Executive Committee and the President of ALGON for their efforts in involving development partners on disease management, primary health, and other health safety nets in the promotion of health and wellbeing. The communiqué underlined that “the health of its citizens lies in the strength of every society.”
The NEC praised the new National President, Hon. Engr. Bello Lawal, and his Executive Committee, saying they have been encouraging, imaginative, and focused thus far. The 774 local governments’ members were urged to implement plans for efficient resource management and to continue being motivated by the opinions and performance reviews of their residents.
In order to draw in investments and promote revenue creation alongside service delivery, the ALGON NEC pledged to keep enhancing its interactions with multisectoral organisations, highlighting the wealth of local governments’ economic potential, and advocating for peacebuilding.
