To examine GenU 9JA’s success in giving Nigerian youth access to digital learning, upskilling, and routes to meaningful employment, stakeholders from the public, business, and civil society sectors convened for a collaborative breakfast discussion. Carl Cruz, the CEO of Airtel Nigeria, stated in his introductory remarks that Airtel is committed to helping young people.
“Airtel is honored to host this important gathering and to reaffirm our dedication to a project that has the potential to change the lives of millions of young Nigerians.” Giving our young people the tools and resources they need would help them succeed personally and advance Nigeria’s social and economic development, he said.
“With the support of our UNICEF partners, we have connected 1,260 schools across Nigeria to digital learning, enabling 600 children to access educational platforms like the Nigeria Learning Passport and Yoma Africa,” Mr. Cruz added, highlighting Airtel’s leadership in providing connectivity for digital learning.
This connectivity goes beyond simply providing internet access; it also aims to level the playing field for youth by providing them with high-quality education and future-ready skills. IHS Towers, ATC, Unilever, Jobberman, Microsoft, the Tony Elumelu Foundation, the Federal Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, GIZ, the World Bank, ILO, UNDP, UNFPA, the EU Delegation, and the Government of the Netherlands were among the many other GenU 9JA partners that attended the event.
Femi Adeniran, Director of Corporate Communications and CSR at Airtel Nigeria, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to promoting youth empowerment and digital inclusion in support of Nigeria’s socioeconomic growth during her report on GenU 9JA digital learning. “At Airtel, we are aggressively working to improve digital learning for young Nigerians and link schools. In terms of school connectivity, we have surpassed our early projections from the start of our collaboration with UNICEF in 2023, which brought to light the notable deficiencies in Nigeria’s educational system.
We have achieved even more progress this year, and our participation in programs like the Nigeria Learning Passport shows that we are dedicated to closing this gap by promoting learning, increasing digital access, and developing critical skills across the country to help young Nigerians,” he said. It’s also important for everyone to know that Airtel Nigeria’s new Home Broadband theme campaign, “Live Limitless,” aligns well with the GenU 9JA tagline, “We No Get Limit,” which highlights our commitment to enabling young Nigerians to reach their greatest potential without hindrance.
This dedication motivates us to keep developing and advancing programs that prepare young people for a better future,” he continued. Airtel and other partners were able to strengthen their dedication to the GenU 9JA objective during the GenU Steering Committee meeting.
Airtel exemplifies its corporate social responsibility by encouraging cooperation and spearheading significant projects that support sustainable development nationwide and uplift Nigerian young.
