Five (5) alleged vandals were apprehended by Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Operatives, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, at two distinct places in the heart of Abuja, according to a report from the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP.

Using iron poles, the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) Department of the Command’s operatives apprehended two suspects, Suleiman Ibrahim, a 17-year-old male from Kano State, and Abubakar Zakari, a 22-year-old male from the same state, near the Wuse Market Bridge.
The two were followed after damaging iron poles in the Arts and Culture Complex, Area 10, Garki, Abuja, and taking them to a location where they would sell them to known customers. They are now providing helpful information that will result in the buyers’ arrest.
In a related incident, officers from the Command’s anti-vandalism section apprehended three suspected vandals near Abuja’s Durumi 2 Panter Market after receiving a tip.
At around midnight, the suspects—Alieyu Danladi, a 37-year-old man from Kano State; Jamilu Abdulrahaman, a 25-year-old man from Zamfara State; and Usman Ibrahim, a 38-year-old man from Sokoto State—were apprehended while trying to transport allegedly stolen and vandalised items to the location where they would be sold.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspects are members of a syndicate and are always in possession of objects that may have been stolen or vandalised.
Three electronic billboards, two solar batteries, a gas cylinder, a generator set, a refrigerator gas cylinder, an iron hammer, a big iron scissors, an air conditioner gas pipe, an Abuja vehicle plate number, two iron pinches, a machete, and two plastic drums are among the items that were recovered from them.
Findings indicate that purchasers arrive at the scene of the arrest at odd hours with trucks in order to purchase the goods and transport them to locations that are yet unknown. Olusola Odumosu, PhD, the FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, reiterated the need for pantaker market control in the FCT, citing their reputation as selling stolen and vandalised goods.
“The Federal Capital Territory’s pantaker markets urgently need to be regulated if we are to rid it of scavengers and vandals undermining government efforts to develop infrastructure.” He stated, “It has become increasingly worrisome that the majority of stolen and vandalised items from road and railway corridors, including household items as well as electrical installations, find their way into the hands of waiting buyers at the pantaker markets.”
The NSCDC, FCT Command has zero tolerance for vandalism, hence an investigation is presently underway to make sure that justice is done and those responsible for these horrible crimes are held accountable and subjected to the full force of the law.
