The governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, thanked Dangote for his support and said he had made a significant contribution to the state’s growth in his speech.
He continued by saying that he was not shocked to see the business tycoon pay a show of solidarity by visiting the catastrophe location. He urged well-meaning Nigerians to follow in Mr. Dangote’s philanthropic giving footsteps. Remember that the flood has caused over a million residents to be relocated, and over thirty deaths have been confirmed.
Mr. Barkindo Mohammed, the Director-General of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), declared that as of Thursday at 5 p.m., 3,683 people had been rescued from their houses by SEMA. The search and rescue effort is still in progress.
“Among the vehicles involved in the rescue operation are fire engines, military vehicles, boats, canoes, divers, and automobiles. We are focussing on individuals who make distress calls and will begin search and rescue today and tomorrow as the water continues to subside, Mohammed stated.
He claims that two million people were impacted, and SEMA has built numerous unofficial camps in addition to 14 official ones for displaced individuals to stay in. He said that food consignments and N3 billion from the federal government had helped the state.
“President Bola Tinubu has provided N3 billion in support of Borno and other states. Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum sent the funds to SEMA and added to what the federal government had provided. In addition to Maiduguri, we are helping flood victims in all of the state’s local government areas, according to Mohammed.
Early in December 2022, the Dangote-led Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation (PCFRR), also referred to as the Dangote Flood Committee, began providing N1.5 billion in relief supplies to flood victims across the country.
The Federal Government formed the PCFRR in the wake of the 2012 flooding, and Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, a well-known lawyer, and Aliko Dangote serve as co-chairs.
