Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Rhoda Adetutu Olofu, a seasoned police officer with a good record, was recently appointed as the Force Secretary. AIG Rhoda was the 20th Assistant Inspector-General of Police to fill the role and, interestingly, the third woman to lead the Maritime Command before being appointed to this role.
She was the AIG Maritime Police Command at the Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos. Her new role is a result of recent modifications to the gender policy intended to increase the participation of women in senior roles within the Nigerian Police Force, as well as the IGP’s goal of improving the effectiveness of the NPF.
This decision demonstrates the IGP’s dedication to gender inclusivity and represents a larger movement in law enforcement towards appreciating and leveraging the diverse talents present in the force, regardless of gender. It also fits with international trends that acknowledge the importance of diverse leadership in strengthening community ties and boosting overall effectiveness of policing.
The Inspector-General of Police reiterates his dedication to the forward-thinking growth of the Nigeria Police Force and the advancement of gender inclusivity in all domains as the force continues to change and adapt to the nation’s changing demands.
