As part of their pledge to enhance educational opportunities for 250 million children by 2025, BIC gave away 50,000 writing instruments to pupils. This is a component of BIC’s wider effort in Nigeria to give children the resources they need to succeed academically. BIC and the Lagos State Ministry of Education worked together earlier this year to offer comparable assistance.
Key Ogun State Ministry of Education representatives, over 70 children and their instructors from various Ogun State schools, distinguished visitors from the media, and BIC representatives were present at the event, which was hosted at the Ministry of Education’s facilities in Oke Imosan, Abeokuta.
Stressing the significance of having enough resources for a student’s educational path to be successful, BIC Nigeria’s Business Development Lead, Adeyemi Ojo, stated: “We are thrilled to collaborate with the Ogun State Ministry of Education to realise our purpose.
It is our duty as a global maker of writing instruments and stationery to give students the tools they need to succeed. One of the primary elements that keeps pupils in school and prevents school dropouts is the availability of resources. We are dedicated to serving both the communities in which we work and the students of today—the people who will shape our country in the future.
We appreciate Ogun State’s cooperation, shared values, and commitment to improving the State’s educational environment. BIC takes a comprehensive approach to education in Africa, with a focus on Nigeria.
This includes providing classrooms with the basic writing and stationery supplies, renovating spaces to create stimulating learning environments, encouraging youth creativity through art competitions (like Art Master Africa), organising internships, and helping students develop entrepreneurial skills as they enter the workforce. Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the Commissioner of Education, Science, and Technology for Ogun State, conveyed his sincere gratitude for BIC’s kind gesture and underlined the significance of collaborations between governmental and business entities in promoting education.
“This collaboration serves as a significant encouragement and marks a positive beginning,” he stated. We appreciate our partnership with BIC because we recognise that the government cannot accomplish everything on its own in the field of education in Ogun State. Around the world, no country pays for education solely on its own.
To supplement the government’s efforts, we proactively seek the support of alumni, business partners such as BIC, and other philanthropists. We shall accomplish the goals we have set for ourselves with these combined efforts.
In order to demonstrate the state’s advancements in education, the commissioner also emphasised the achievement of Ogun State students in regional and national contests. Two exceptional students were introduced to the visitors during the ceremony.
At the recent National Anchor Competition in Abuja, Ms. Sarah Adelakun, a junior secondary school student from Ebenezer Grammar School in Abeokuta, came in second. Furthermore, Master Ayodele Daniel Babalola from the Iperu Remo Christ Apostolic Grammar School. Babalola, who had previously taken part in a program supported by the state for Technology Training, amazed guests by creating a prototype ATM, which he displayed at the function.
Thanking the State government and BIC for the writing instruments, both children spoke for their fellow students. Ms. Adelakun stated, “We are appreciative of this support, which will definitely help us in performing better academically.” At the end of the program, the Ogun State Ministry of Education and BIC made a firm commitment to keep working together to boost education throughout the state. Professor Arigbabu expressed optimism that other efforts aimed at enhancing Ogun State’s educational performance will be made possible by this relationship.
In order to give pupils the writing supplies they needed before the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination periods earlier this year, BIC Nigeria worked with the Lagos State Ministry of Education. In a similar vein, BIC collaborated with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to provide 40,000 pens to pupils preparing for the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions of Ghana’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Beyond just providing writing supplies, BIC is dedicated to improving education in the area.
It works with educators to collaborate in the classroom, foster creativity, create master classes for educators, and form partnerships with multiple educational institutions to support students and youth in Africa.
This is a result of the business’s dedication to Writing the Future Together, its sustainable development initiative.
