Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, has received praise from a coalition of 100 pro-democracy organisations nationwide operating under the National Patriotic Coalition (NPC) for exhibiting political maturity in the face of provocations.

The panel observed that political maturity of Fubara’s level is uncommon in Nigerian politics. The NPC urged President Tinubu to step in once more to address the political unrest roiling Rivers State in a statement signed by Comrade Olusegun Johnson and made public on Thursday.
The organisation highlighted that Governor Fubara had already faced enough intimidation and harassment from Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and his “cultlike supporters.”Comrade Johnson emphasised how urgently the President needed to step in to stop “violent protests” by Wike’s followers from causing law and order to collapse in the state.
As a coalition of 100 pro-democracy organisations nationwide, the National Patriotic Coalition (NPC) wishes to applaud Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for her unflinching political maturity in the face of provocations.
According to the statement, “His degree of political maturity is uncommon in Nigerian and even African politics.”
“That being said, we think the Governor has had enough provocation and intimidation from Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory’s Minister, and his cult-like followers. Despite the severity of the provocations facing Governor Fubara, it requires a lion’s heart to remain focused on governing well. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must act quickly to resolve the political situation in Rivers State. We are aware that last year, the President made a commendable attempt to resolve the problem by launching the Rivers Peace pact.
However, Wike and his allies later obstructed the peace pact by flagrantly violating its terms and conditions. However, the President cannot abandon the peace in any region of the federation in his capacity as the father of the country. To avoid a collapse in law and order, we thus implore Mr. President to step in once more during the political unrest in Rivers State. According to credible sources, Wike’s followers, who have been staging violent protests in Rivers, intend to use the alleged countrywide rally against hardship as an opportunity to wreak havoc throughout the state.
Before D-day, we trust that Mr. President will summon the minister and his cult-like followers to order.” It should be remembered that in June, dynamite exploded fatally amid pro-Wike demonstrators in Port Harcourt. It was not too long ago that supporters of Wike, led by the divisive Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, interrupted a state Ministry of Health-organized medical outreach for women at the Eliozu Health Centre in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
President Tinubu needs to step in quickly to stop a complete collapse of law and order in the state because of these and many more acts of terrorism and excessive political expression by Wike’s supporters. “We implore Governor Fubara and the people of Rivers to maintain composure in the face of provocations. We trust that law enforcement and other pertinent organisations will fulfil their responsibility to safeguard law-abiding individuals from acts of political terrorism.
To ensure the safety of people and property in the state, security agencies must capture terrorists posing as political sympathisers. Everyone is observing!”
