The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commenced a strategic training initiative designed to improve operational effectiveness, strengthen research capacity, and drive digital transformation across its commands and formations nationwide.
Speaking at the opening of a two-day workshop in Abuja focused on operational deliverables and research methodology, the Commandant General of the Corps, Ahmed Audi, emphasized the vital role the NSCDC plays in Nigeria’s security framework. He noted that the Corps remains a key institution in safeguarding critical national assets, maintaining public safety, and supporting the country’s overall security efforts.
According to him, the training programme is part of ongoing efforts to equip personnel with the skills and knowledge needed to meet evolving security challenges while improving service delivery through innovation, research, and technology-driven solutions.

According to the NSCDC Commandant General, the Corps plays a vital role in Nigeria’s security framework through its responsibility for protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, managing disasters, gathering intelligence, and engaging with communities to enhance public safety.
Prof. Audi explained that the training programme was designed to deepen the use of research, innovation, and digital technology in achieving the Corps’ operational goals, in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
He noted that the evolving nature of security threats demands a shift from traditional approaches, urging officers to embrace research, critical thinking, and technology-driven solutions in tackling emerging challenges.
“Today’s security environment requires evidence-based decision-making and innovative thinking. Our personnel must be able to identify emerging threats, conduct meaningful research, and develop practical solutions that enhance service delivery,” he stated.
The NSCDC boss also encouraged participants to ensure that the knowledge gained during the training translates into tangible improvements in operations across commands and formations nationwide.
Earlier, the Commandant in charge of Planning, Research and Statistics, Commandant Peter Okloho, reminded officers that the Federal Government assesses the Corps based on how effectively it delivers on its statutory responsibilities. He therefore urged participants to maintain professionalism and accuracy in their reporting after the training.
In her remarks, the Head of the Critical Thinking, Research and Innovation Unit, Dr. Ogunshola Folashade, stressed the need to combine practical field experience with critical thinking in addressing modern security concerns.
She disclosed that the workshop would cover key areas such as operational deliverables, research methodology, strategic communication, advanced report writing, and institutional best practices.
One of the major highlights of the programme was the induction and swearing-in of newly appointed Critical Thinking, Research and Innovation Desk Officers. The oath of allegiance was administered by the Head of Legal Services, Commandant Bamiyo Akomolafe.
The training attracted participants from all 36 state commands and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as representatives from various directorates, departments, and units at the NSCDC National Headquarters. The broad participation reflects the Corps’ determination to build a more innovative, research-driven, and technologically advanced institution.
The programme is expected to enhance the Corps’ institutional capacity and strengthen its ability to respond effectively to emerging security challenges across the country.
