The former governor is said to have passed away in the early hours of Monday, October 19, 2026, just two days before his birthday.

In a statement announcing the loss, the Uduaghan family expressed deep sorrow, describing him as a cherished patriarch, respected elder and a source of inspiration whose contributions impacted lives across Delta State and Nigeria.

The family also expressed gratitude to God for his life and years of public service, noting that his legacy would remain significant to those who knew him and benefited from his leadership.

Uduaghan played several key roles in the Delta State Government before becoming governor. He served as Commissioner for Health between 1999 and 2003, Secretary to the State Government from 2003 to 2007, and Governor of Delta State from 2007 to 2015.

His tenure in office was marked by efforts towards human capital development and infrastructure expansion across the state.

In their statement, the family prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and strength for everyone mourning his passing.

“Rest well, our beloved Father, Brother, and Uncle. Your memory will forever remain in our hearts, and your legacy will endure,” the family stated.

Details of his funeral arrangements are expected to be communicated by the family in due course.

The reported death comes months after similar claims circulated in June 2026. At the time, the Delta State Government and his daughter, Orode Uduaghan, dismissed the rumours, confirming that he was alive and receiving medical treatment.

Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
