The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, has uncovered a suspected impersonation and smuggling operation after seizing military uniforms and a large quantity of cannabis valued at ₦259.68 million along the Idiroko border corridor.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Command headquarters in Idiroko on Monday, May 25, 2026, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC) Oladapo Afeni, disclosed that the interception followed credible intelligence received by officers of the Command.
Afeni explained that Customs operatives stopped a luxury bus without a registration number during the operation. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of military uniforms and premium-grade cannabis, raising concerns about possible criminal activities linked to national security threats.
He noted that the recovery of military uniforms is particularly alarming considering the nation’s current security challenges, stressing that criminals often use such uniforms to impersonate security operatives, evade detection, and carry out illegal activities, including smuggling and other crimes.

A physical inspection of the seized goods uncovered 197 camouflage trousers and shorts hidden inside unlabelled cartons, five complete camouflage outfits, 32 assorted camouflage underwear, 32 camouflage tops, 154 packs of synthetic cannabis popularly called Canadian Loud, as well as seven parcels of Colorado and other contraband items.
Deputy Comptroller Afeni appealed to members of the public to continue sharing useful and timely information with security agencies to help safeguard their communities.
He noted that through dedication and improved collaboration with other security agencies, the Command remains determined to confront smuggling activities and security threats across the border corridor.
As part of ongoing inter-agency cooperation, the confiscated cannabis was officially handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Area Command.
Speaking while receiving the items, the Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Ganiyu Adeyoye, described the operation as a significant success.
According to him, the case stands out because suspects were apprehended, increasing the chances that everyone connected to the crime will face prosecution
