The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Benue State has arrested two men accused of operating a fake recruitment scheme and swindling unsuspecting job seekers out of more than ₦1.2 million.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC EA Michael, the suspects identified as Okpara Michael Abah and Ade John Ogbu were arrested around 4:05 pm in Makurdi while allegedly carrying out a fake data capture exercise for applicants.
Preliminary findings revealed that Abah reportedly collected ₦1,178,500 from victims under the guise of securing jobs, while another ₦116,500 was allegedly demanded for uniforms and other materials.
Items recovered from the suspects included application forms, passport photographs, and a camera believed to have been used for the fraudulent operation.

State Commandant CC LA Bitrus, represented by SC Michael, cautioned members of the public to stay alert and avoid engaging with illegal recruitment agents. She explained that recruitment and appointments into the Federal Ministry of Interior follow an official and well-organized process, urging people not to be deceived by fraudsters seeking to exploit job seekers. She added that the suspects would be charged to court once investigations are completed.
