2027 Senate Race: Ogun East APC Unites Behind Dapo Abiodun as Consensus Candidate

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday received a significant political endorsement as leaders, delegates, and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District officially adopted him as the zone’s consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.
The endorsement, which party leaders described as a unified decision aimed at promoting quality representation and strengthening party cohesion in the district, drew the presence of prominent APC figures, including the party’s consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, former deputy governors, and other influential stakeholders from across Ogun East.
Among those present at the gathering were former deputy governors Yetunde Onanuga, Segun Adesegun, and Gbenga Kaka; Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi; Deputy Chairman, Chief James Dina; Chairman of Ogun East Senatorial District, Senator Lekan Mustapha; and the APC Chairman in Ogun East Zone, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin.
Speaking during the event, former Deputy Governor Segun Adesegun explained that APC members throughout Ogun East had unanimously agreed to present Governor Abiodun as the party’s consensus candidate for the senatorial seat.
Senator Lekan Mustapha noted that the decision reflected the collective desire of the people of Ogun East to secure effective and impactful representation at the National Assembly. He also recalled that during a stakeholders’ meeting held on April 20, leaders across the district had unanimously endorsed Governor Abiodun as the preferred APC candidate, adding that the purpose of Tuesday’s gathering was to formally convey the decision to both the Governor and the party leadership.
In his remarks, the APC Chairman in Ogun East, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin, formally presented Governor Abiodun to the Ogun State APC leadership and urged the state chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, to forward his name to the party’s national secretariat as the APC candidate for Ogun East Senatorial District.
Responding to the endorsement, Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed heartfelt appreciation to party leaders, delegates, and stakeholders in Ogun East for the confidence they had shown in him. He described the consensus arrangement as a strong symbol of unity, political maturity, and a shared commitment to the growth of both Ogun East and Ogun State as a whole.
The Governor said he was deeply honoured by the overwhelming support and assured party members that he would not disappoint the people or the APC leadership that entrusted him with the responsibility.
He further pledged that, if elected to represent Ogun East in the Senate, he would deliver purposeful and people-focused representation capable of attracting more development and democratic benefits to the district.
Governor Abiodun also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the support his administration has received since assuming office. He commended leaders in Ogun East for prioritising unity and harmony within the party, noting that adopting a consensus candidate would further strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He reaffirmed his dedication to the ideals and programmes of the APC and promised to continue collaborating with stakeholders across the senatorial district to sustain the developmental progress already achieved in Ogun State.
The Governor equally appreciated Senator Olamilekan Adeola, former deputy governors, party executives, elders, and other stakeholders for their support and solidarity, assuring them that the APC would remain united and successful in Ogun State.
