Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected terrorist ammunition courier along the Obajana–Lokoja road in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.The suspect, identified as Yahaya Umar, was apprehended after security operatives received credible intelligence about the activities of an arms trafficking network operating in the North Central region.Military sources disclosed that Umar was intercepted while allegedly transporting 500 rounds of 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition hidden inside a bag of maize in a bid to beat security checks.Initial investigations indicate that the suspect is believed to be a major logistics courier responsible for moving arms and ammunition to terrorist groups across parts of the region.During interrogation, he reportedly confessed that the ammunition was handed over to him at Obajana Forest and was meant to be delivered at Dikko Junction in Suleja, Niger State, to another suspected terrorist whose identity is yet to be confirmed.The Nigerian Army said the suspect remains in custody and is being questioned as security operatives step up efforts to break up the criminal network and apprehend other members of the syndicate.
