A group known as the Concerned Ekiti Professionals has called on leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to put aside differences and unite behind its governorship candidate, Dr. Wole Oluyede, ahead of the upcoming Ekiti State election.
In a statement released on Thursday and signed by its convener, Oluwatosin Dada, the group described the election as a crucial turning point for the state, warning that Ekiti cannot endure another cycle of what it termed misleading promises and propaganda.
The group also voiced concern over the current administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, claiming that many residents are frustrated due to unmet expectations and ongoing economic hardship. It noted that there is a growing desire among citizens for a change in leadership and governance approach.
Presenting Dr. Oluyede as its preferred candidate, the professionals described him as a leader with integrity, capacity, and a vision for meaningful transformation, saying he offers a credible alternative capable of restoring trust in government and driving real development.
However, the group expressed worry over reported internal rifts within the PDP, alleging that some party members may be working against its success by indirectly backing the incumbent. It warned that such divisions could hurt the party’s chances if not urgently resolved, and urged key figures such as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, along with governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde, to step in and promote unity.
Reaffirming their stance, the Concerned Ekiti Professionals pledged to mobilize voters in support of what they described as the broader interest of Ekiti State, insisting that their advocacy is driven by the need for better governance rather than party loyalty. They concluded by cautioning that history would not be kind to any failure to act decisively at such a critical moment for the state’s future.
